Our Physicians

Our team of physicians works with our faculty and support staff to provide patients at the Carolina Center for Behavioral Health with quality, comprehensive care in a supportive therapeutic environment.  

Gergana Dimitrova, M.D.

Dr. Dimitrova has nearly 10 years of experience practicing psychiatric medicine and currently serves as the Medical Director at The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health. She previously worked for the Worcester County Health Department Outpatient Community Psychiatric Clinic where she specialized in the treatment of patients with dual diagnosis issues. Prior to this experience, she earned her MD from the Bulgarian Medical Academy and completed a Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of British Columbia. She has also completed residency training at the University of Maryland Medical School and the Bulgarian Medical Academy.
 



 

Frederick W. Veit, M.D.

Dr. Veit serves as the Service Director of Chemical Dependency Services for the Carolina Center for Behavioral Health. Dr. Veit is Diplomate certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a certified Addictionologist. He brings over 28 years of experience specializing in internal medicine and addiction treatment with inpatient facilities, most recently at the nationally known Talbott Recovery Campus in Atlanta. He has been recognized for his work and has served in many leadership roles throughout his medical career, including:  President of the Medical Staff and Medical Executive Committee for Anchor Hospital in Atlanta, Chairman of Addiction Medicine at South Fulton Hospital in Atlanta, and the Medical Director for Chemical Dependency Program at Anchor Hospital in Atlanta. He has been published on topics related to Substance Abuse Professionals, and Addiction in Anesthesiologists.

 

Ishmeal Major, M.D.

Dr. Major earned his BS at The University of South Carolina College of Science and Mathematics and his MD at The University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and completed a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Prior to joining the Carolina Center for Behavioral Health, Dr. Major served as Medical Director of Intensive Outpatient Services for Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Florida, as a Sub-Investigator for an acute mania study conducted by Pfizer. His also gained extensive experience as an on call physician for various behavioral health facilities and psychiatric institutes as well as during time spent in private practice. Dr. Major has appeared as a guest speaker and panel member for several media features.




 

Sergio Sanchez, M.D.

Dr. Sanchez has nearly 10 years of experience as a consulting physician and staff physician. Prior to joining The Carolina Center for Behavioral Health, he served as a Sub-Investigator for IPS Research Company, where he gained extensive experience in pharmaceutical research. Dr. Sanchez was educated at the Federal University of Maranhao School of Medicine in Brazil and completed residencies at Berkshire Medical Center, Medical Center of Central Georgia, and University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He also spent a year as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Medical Field in Sucre, Bolivia.
